Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township: Transforming Bidadi into India's First AI-Powered City

Karnataka is set to launch India's first and largest artificial intelligence-powered city, the Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT), at Bidadi on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. The Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT), popularly known as the Bidadi Township, is proposed across approximately 9,600 acres spanning nine revenue villages and 16 non-revenue villages in Bidadi, about 40 kilometres from Bengaluru.

The township will follow a 'work-live-play' model, combining residential areas with IT hubs, start-ups, services, schools, cultural centres and hospitals. About 2,000 acres have been earmarked for AI-based industries, while 1,100 acres will be developed into green spaces and parks. This strategic layout addresses a critical need: The idea was to decongest the Bangalore Metropolitan Area and ensure balanced urban growth in the Bangalore Metropolitan Region.

Connectivity remains the township's strongest advantage. A 300-metre-wide business corridor is planned to link the township with key roads including the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), national highways NH-209 and NH-275, NICE Road, and the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway. The transport grid has been designed not only to connect Bidadi with Bengaluru but also to allow the township to function as an independent hub for employment and residential activities.

Sustainability is embedded in the project's DNA. Within the township, arterial and ring roads will be supported by pedestrian-friendly clusters, reflecting an effort to minimise reliance on private vehicles and encourage sustainable mobility. Nearly 950 acres have been reserved for green buffers and environmental conservation, and plans include rejuvenation of water bodies such as Byramangala Lake alongside advanced water-management systems.

The project entered a critical phase recently. Government approval for the current version of the project was granted on 07 May 2026. The Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBDA) issued a preliminary notification on March 12, affecting approximately 10,450 landowners. Officials estimate the development could attract investments exceeding Rs 20,000 crore and generate lakhs of direct and indirect employment opportunities across artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, technology services and logistics.
